AInstitutional Nouns (School vs The School)

When thinking of the general concept and purpose of the place (studying, medical treatment, incarceration), omit 'the'.

Aiko is ten years old. She goes to school every day. (as a student)
Aiko's mother went to the school to speak to her teacher. (the specific building)
Marcus is studying law at university. (as a student)
Marcus's parents visited the university during the open day. (as visitors)

BGeographical Names with and without "The"

No "the" with continents, single countries, single islands, mountains, lakes, cities. Use "the" with oceans, rivers, canals, deserts, mountain ranges, and countries with "Republic", "Kingdom", or plural names.

Continents/Countries: Asia, Kenya, Japan, Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Victoria.
With The: the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Amazon, the Sahara, the Alps.
