Comparatives & Superlatives (Modifiers & "The ... The ...")

Forming comparatives, using degree modifiers (much, far, slightly, a bit), double comparatives (the more, the better), and as ... as.

Core Structure & Formula

Short Adjectives: adjective + -er / -est (cheaper, cheapest, safer, safest)

Long Adjectives: more / most + adjective (more expensive, most efficient)

Comparing two things for equivalence or expressing lesser degree without using "less".

•I'm not as experienced as my supervisor. (= my supervisor is more experienced than me)

•Electricity is twice as expensive as it was a few years ago.

•Their new office is three times as big as the old one.

Common Candidate Errors

✓ The higher the price, the fewer people buy.
